The Alliance will engage in extensive clinical research activities in order to provide local access to therapeutic and controlled trials for patients diagnosed with cancer. By working directly with various federal and state agencies, hospital organizations, local healthcare providers, and community supports, the Alliance will engage in clinical trials whose treatment protocols are only available under FDA-approved guidelines and as stipulated under various national drug studies.
These clinical trials make experimental treatment available to patients in the North Bay region and, ultimately, play an important part in the adoption of treatment guidelines for cancer patients nationwide. Active engagement in clinical research in this region will enhance the local and national knowledge base, improve treatment possibilities, and extend services that are scarce in this region and, generally, only available in large metropolitan cities. The clinical research activities will be under the overall direction of a physician licensed to practice medicine in the State of California with support from certified oncology nurses and clinical research assistants.
Public Charitable Purpose
In order to insure local access to therapeutic and controlled clinical drug trials run by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and/or commercial pharmaceutical companies, the Alliance will underwrite efforts that would include identifying potential participants and assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients participating in the trials for diseases including, but not limited to, cancer.
