The Alliance will take an active role in providing information and resources related to the prevention and early detection of cancer. Such prevention programs will be designed to help adults and children choose and maintain healthy lifestyles throughout their lives. With the active engagement of local physicians, nurses, health educators, other health professionals, the Alliance will target at-risk populations. The Alliance will also seek to create partnerships with community-based groups in order to connect with hard-to-reach individuals (elderly persons, non-English speakers, low-income adults). In addition, the Alliance will collaborate with health plans, hospitals, medical groups, and other healthcare providers in the region to augment professional education for medical practitioners. These educational sessions will be offered in multiple settings throughout the region. Patient and family education programs will be developed and provided by licensed nurses in oncology with support from other healthcare professionals including nutritionists, radiological technologists, and health educators. In addition, physicians will support the development of a health practitioner curriculum as well as educational sessions for other physicians. Seminars and conferences will be available to any healthcare professional interested in the areas of oncology and cancer prevention, but they will be targeted for professionals in Northern California.
